General description
Down-to-earth and cosmopolitan: Markus Prackwieser proves that you can be both. Although he runs the Gump Hof winery in Fiè allo Sciliar, which is almost half a millennium old, with great respect for tradition, he also draws his inspiration from outside the region: from the Wachau, Burgundy and the Loire Valley. ‘These are model regions,’ says Prackwieser. He has been responsible for the Gump Hof winery in Völs since 2000, and since then he has sought dialogue with fellow winemakers at local, national and international level. The winemaker is no stranger to new paths, just as he has deep roots in history. After all, the Gump Hof dates back to the 16th century. ‘This characterises the farm and is reflected in the respectful treatment of the environment, the cultivation of typical grape varieties, traditional cultivation methods and painstaking manual work,’ says Prackwieser. The winemaker can rely on vineyards that are up to 70 per cent steep at an altitude of 400 to 850 metres, where Pinot Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer and Vernatsch grow. The wines of the Gump Hof winery in Völs combine a down-to-earth attitude with a cosmopolitan outlook. Or as Markus Prackwieser says: ‘The knowledge we have acquired, our own experience, time and patience and the refinement of our own flavour profile mean that the character of the landscape is reflected in our wines. And that of the winemaker.
Description to arrive at destination
Coming from Völs am Schlern it is 6km to the company Faust, after this turn immediately right into the narrow side street, where the sign "Gump Hof" is indicated. After 500m you will find the winery.
Shortdescription
The historic Weinhof Gump has been in existence since 1546 and has been owned by the Prackwieser family for 200 years, who are passionate about the profession of winemaking.
Author's tip
Due to the fact that the Gump Hof is a family-run winery, the full commitment of the Prackwieser family in the vineyards and in the cellar is often required. Therefore, they kindly ask you to announce your visit in advance by telephone (+39 0471 601190) or via e-mail (
info@gumphof.it
) allowing them to make sure that they can dedicate you enough time and attention
Parking
The car can be parked at the Gump Hof winery.
Public transport
The Gump Hof is easy to reach by public transport.
Take bus no. 170 from the bus stop ‘Völs Kreisverkehr’ to the bus stop ‘Faust’. Get off there and turn right, following the signs to ‘Gump Hof’. After a short walk you will finally reach the Gump Hof.
